Data Sources & Methodology

MyLittleEyes enriches every property listing with neighbourhood intelligence drawn from official UK government data sources. This page explains where the data comes from, how distances are calculated, and what the labels mean.

How distances are calculated

All distances shown are straight-line (as-the-crow-flies) measurements between the property coordinates and the nearest facility. Actual travel distances by road or footpath may be longer. Distances are shown in miles, rounded to one decimal place.

Emergency care (A&E)

Source: NHS England - Organisation Data Service (ODS).
We identify the nearest hospital with an Accident & Emergency department using geocoded NHS facility data.

Schools

Source: Department for Education - Get Information About Schools (GIAS).
The nearest school is identified by straight-line distance. All open state-funded and independent schools are included.

Railway stations

Source: Department for Transport - NaPTAN (National Public Transport Access Nodes).
We show the nearest railway or underground station by straight-line distance.

Crime

Source: data.police.uk - street-level crime data.
We calculate a blended crime rate per 1,000 population within a radius of the property and compare it to the England & Wales average. The result is expressed as a band: Very low, Low, Average, Above average, or High.

Flood risk (rivers & sea only)

Source: Environment Agency - Flood Map for Planning (Rivers & Sea).
Queried via the EA's open WMS service. This dataset covers flood risk from rivers and the sea only (not surface water, reservoirs, or groundwater). Zones are:

Rail noise

Source: DEFRA - Strategic Noise Mapping (Round 4), via the Environment Agency's open WMS.
Noise levels are reported as LAeq (equivalent continuous sound level) in decibels. Bands used:

Air quality (PM2.5)

Source: DEFRA - Pollution Climate Mapping (PCM) model, annual mean PM2.5 concentrations on a 1 km grid.
PM2.5 refers to fine particulate matter (particles with a diameter of 2.5 micrometres or less). These particles can penetrate deep into the lungs. Our bands are:

Broadband

Source: Ofcom - Connected Nations, fixed broadband coverage data.
Coverage figures show the percentage of premises in the postcode area that can access each broadband speed tier. The connectivity badge summarises overall coverage: Excellent, Very good, Good, or Limited.
